The Baxter Boys: Rattled #2

Only three things matter to Kelsey Fry: an envelope full of memories, a pink box full of hope, and a well-planned future, soon to be realized.

Alex Dosek knows that Kelsey needs more than the tattoo he gave her. She hoped to ink the memory of the daughter she gave up for adoption into her soul, but that wasn’t necessary. The memories were already there.

Who would have thought a house full of boys would be a refuge for Kelsey? The Baxter boys come to Kelsey’s rescue and all is well, but the past has a way of catching up with you, and Kelsey’s past reaches out with a phone call. The daughter she gave up for adoption is sick, and she needs something only Kelsey can give her.

It won’t be easy, but it will be necessary. Kelsey will look into the eyes of her daughter and then walk away, and take nothing with her but the letters she writes to her daughter on every holiday and every special occasion. In the evening, when she can’t sleep, she pours out her heart on paper.

When her daughter turns eighteen, Kelsey can reach out to her. Those are the rules. Not a moment before. But sometimes, the fates intervene. Or friends do. Call it what you will.

My Thoughts

I love this book! The characters are a bit rough around the edges but they are they.

The Baxter boys are my favorite type of people to be around with. I know that none of them had it easy but they are willing to help people around them. Christian, Sean, Dylan, Zach and Ryan and Alex. They had a past before Baxter but they grew to become someone useful with their high school diploma. Somehow I got a feel that Jane was highlighting the importance of education and in the story I believed it. They move forward and I felt proud of them.

Kelsey was grateful that Alex brought her to his house. She didn't expect that Alex's friends were her friends. She might not have a good relationship with Alex before but his friends were nice to her. The boys were unique in their own ways. Christian, the musician; Dylan, the clean-freak writer; Zach, the drag queen; Ryan, the photographer; Sean, the painter and Alex, the tattoo artist.
They are truly special. Not only that, when there is trouble regarding Kelsey's 6-year-old daughter, everyone is willing to help her in any way. I felt they were too good to be true.

I might keep raving on and on about how amazing they are so let's move to Kelsey and Alex's relationship. Given this couple's past, everyone would be surprised to see they ended up together. But after that one episode in the audition, they connected deeply and something shifted between them.

Kelsey was scared to plunge into the relationship even though they can't deny the attraction. She got pregnant the first time around and it broke her since. She hadn't got over having to give up her daughter because she can't afford to give her the life she deserved. But Alex deserved a chance so they tried it.

A call from Brady's adoptive parents got her rethinking everything. Her daughter is sick and she wants to do everything to save her life. But seeing her beautiful kid so pale and frail left her wanting to touch her and hug her and that would be a breach of contract. She had to wait for another 12 years to finally let her daughter knows about her. Every time she missed her daughter, I wanted to sob along with her.

I knew Alex loves her from the very first time. He wants to make everything easier for her if he had that power. He is a great guy and he's perfect for Kelsey.

I adore this book but I think the overall story is a bit rough and it needed to be polished a little bit more.

I can't wait for the next book!

The Baxter Boys: Rattled #3

Two things stand in the way of Madison Cross realizing her dream of studying music performance and composition at a prestigious college:

1) Her parents, who don’t understand or get her, and want her to attend a community college and settle on a career that will actually support her one day; and
2) A private instructor.

No music school is going to take her seriously with only middle and high school instruction, but she has never been given the opportunity for private instructions (see #1 above). Her one shot is convincing Mrs. Dosek, a well-respected pianist who teaches for free, but the woman won’t return an email, let alone talk to her.

When Madison discovers a pink box of letters hidden in her parents’ attic, she’s consumed with wanting to know more about the woman who wrote them. Through reading the heartbreaking letters, Madison comes to learn more than she ever dreamed of about herself, but now she has to face her biggest fear, and it has nothing to do with college. She must learn where she came from in order to find out where she’s going.

About the Author

Jane Charles is a USA Today Bestselling author who has lived in the Midwest her entire life. As a child she would more likely be found outside with a baseball than a book in her hand.

In fact, Jane hated reading until she was sixteen. Out of boredom on a long road trip she borrowed her older sister’s historical romance and fell in love with reading. She long ago lost count of how many fiction novels she has read over the years and her love for them never died.

Along with romance she has a passion for history and the two soon combined when she penned her first historical romance. What turned into a hobby became a passion. In addition to historical romances, she has been pulled to write contemporary and has released two NA novels in her new series, Baxter Academy of Arts. She intends to continue writing both historical and contemporary.
